A ski holidays in Hopfgarten are ideal for an intermediate level skier, with a large number of easily accessible red pistes nearby, and access to the largest interconnected ski area in Austria.
Hopfgarten- Ski
Hopfgarten is located in the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixenthal ski area, Austria’s largest interconnected ski area. See a piste map here. The piste down to resort is a red piste, as are the majority of the nearby pistes, meaning that this is not a resort for beginners. For intermediate skiers the skiing facilities are perfect because of the large number of red pistes near to resort, and access to many more pistes in the wider SkiWelt area, all of which can be accessed with the SkiWelt lift pass .
Hopfgarten- Resort
Hopfgarten is located at the foot of the Hohe Salve mountain. It is a small village, with a traditional appearance, with its cobbled streets and a church which dates back to the baroque period. There are a number of pubs and bars for après ski.
Activities
Three toboggan runs around Hopfgarten, the Haagalm run and the Höhenbrandalm run are both natural toboggan runs and both 4km in length. The 1.5km Kirchholz run is floodlit until midnight, giving the chance for some night tobogganing. You can also go ice skating on a frozen lake at the Leisurepark Salvenaland, which is open from 9am to 8pm, or for something more relaxing go for a ride on a horse drawn sleigh through either the Windau Valley or Grafenweg. For those who want to do something exhilarating, there is the possibility of tandem paragliding. There is also some excellent cross country skiing on the Angerberg/Mariastein network of cross country ski trails, 40km of which is also floodlit at night.
Children
The Kids Centre for the Hohe Salve holiday region, based at the bottom half of the Hopfgarten ski lift, will look after children aged 1 to 3 from Sunday to Friday between 9am and 4pm. Ski school is available for children from 3 years of age.
