St. Moritz - Ski Resort GuideWebcam | Piste Map | Snow Report & Weather Forecast St. Moritz is probably the most famous ski resort in Switzerland. It is posh and glamorous and therefore a fantastic setting for an unforgettable holiday! It is situated next to one of the lakes at the base of the 4000m Piz Bernina and you will find your skiing constantly interrupted by the need to stop and gaze at the charming surroundings. SkiSt. Moritz is an ideal location for skiers of intermediate and advanced abilities. There are three main areas of terrain for skiing, the ‘Corviglia’, the ‘Corvatsch’ and ‘Diavolezza and Lagalp’. The Corviglia has slopes for all levels of skiing. Beginners should stick to these slopes where there are drag lifts and plenty of easy runs before they venture out on to the rest of the area to try out their new skills. For intermediates, there are some challenging red runs as well as the easier blue runs for a quick and easy way back home. For the advanced skier this area acts more as a warm-up zone! Worth doing though! The Corvatsch is particularly good for intermediate skiers who want to try some more demanding reds and something a little more daring such as high altitude glacier skiing. There are a smattering of black runs however advanced skiers will want to head to the ‘Diavolezza and Lagalp’ area. This has excellent snow all year round as it’s base is still over 2000m. The wonderful steep slopes make this terrain particularly challenging for the best skiers both on and off piste! TownSt Moritz is a famous resort with a glitzy reputation - although those looking for traditional picturesque villages should go elsewhere! There are luxury shops of course, selling all types of goods but most of the ‘celebratory lifestyle’ can be only be found in the 5* hotels. There are 37 restaurants on the resort so visitors are a little spoilt for choice! The highest place to eat is the Restaurant Piz Nair at 3057m which guarantees spectacular views to enjoy after a day out on the slopes! La Marmite is also worth going to, though it is expensive. Nothing special on the outside, inside it dishes up exceptional food - it has caviar and truffles on it’s menu! If you’re looking for somewhere less expensive to dine out, try the Skihutte Alpina, the Café Grischa, the Chamanna and El Paradiso. Most of these places serve international food as well as local dishes and have sun terraces so you can enjoy the mountain sunshine! Other ActivitiesSt. Moritz is home to some rather unconventional activities such as horse and greyhound racing and polo, cricket and curling tournaments on the frozen lake! There is a tobogganing run on Muottas Muragl as well as extensive cross country skiing and winter hiking trails and you could even try your hand at kitesailing on Silvaplana’s frozen lake!
